Feb 15th is Flag Day

caledon pole (1)

At  noon on February 15, 1965, Canada’s red and white maple leaf flag was raised for the very first time on Parliament Hill. A year later on the same day the National Flag Day Of Canada was declared.

Celebrating its 58th anniversary this year, the national flag is a symbol that unites all Canadians and reflects the common values we hold so dear — equality, diversity and inclusion.

POPPY CAR FLAG

In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
the torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Back To School

It’s hard to believe the Labour Day long Weekend it already upon us.  As the kids get ready for Back to School we wonder where the summer went .

Here is a little history of this long weekend.  Labour Day, the first Monday in September, has been a statutory holiday in Canada since 1894.  Historically, workers marked the day with various activities. These included parades, speeches, games, amateur competitions and picnics. The holiday promoted working-class solidarity and belonging during a time of  industrialization. Since the Second World War, fewer and fewer people have participated in Labour Day activities. Regardless,  it remains a statutory holiday. Many Canadians now spend the Labour Day holiday relaxing and having family time and preparing for the return to school.
